Nike 6.0 Contest, Skullcandy Demo, and More

So Here is a series of posts with some pics to keep you guys happy :-)

so last week, the skate demo i went to was pretty cool. Rune Glifberg was there, along with Pierre Luc Gagnon, Lizard King, and Adam Dyet. Also, Del Tha Funk Homosapien was performing. It was a pretty fun little demo.

After that, I also stumbled upon a really really fun skatepark in Costa Mesa. It's Volcom's gift to the world I guess, either way, its super fun so there are some pics of it at the end of the slideshow as well.

Today I went down to the beach to check out some of the Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure contest. North Carolina's own Brett Barley was there, as well as Virginia Beach's Phillip Goold. They were both rockin it out for 17th St and the East coast. Here are a few pics of the contest as well.

alright, that should hold you over till i get some more awesome pics. I am heading up to Malibu this week, so don't worry, awesome pics are on the way.

peace

OH AND I FORGOT

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO SENT A BIRTHDAY CARD!!!! I love it, and to prove it, let me show you what I did with them :-) NOTE THE FIRST PICTURE BELOW.

Also, just figured I would show you how to make the BEST GUACAMOLE EVER....in case you like guac, its super easy and super delicious. Its so simple, I won't even type out the recipe, just follow the pictures and picture captions to make it, it will work if you do everything to taste; after all, you are the one that knows which ingredient you do and do not like, so why would you put too much (or any) of an ingredient that you do not like.

anyway, here it is, enjoy!

NEWS

Alright,
So I said I would post again yesterday and I didn't - sue me. The event that I was hoping to grab some shots for on Friday ended up being a bomb. Donavon Frankenreiter was playing 6 secret shows in Southern CA. He listed the date and city of each show. All you had to do was be one of the first 10 people to send an email at 10am Pac Std Time, requesting a ticket for the show in that area, on that day. I didn't get it, but my plan was to go to the show in Huntington Beach (Because that was one of the locations) and get some awesome pics of the show because they were all really small.

Anyway, so that ended up being a no-go. I was really excited though because Nate and I had plans to head down to Hollywood on Saturday, then go from Hollywood to Malibu, then come back from Malibu and stop back in Hollywood to go out for the night with his friends. Well, Saturday ended up being the most miserable day that I've had since I came to Cali. Here's why:

So, we leave at 11 am to get to Hollywood in time to eat lunch with his friends...the traffic is unbelievable (i hate LA because of this....soo much). We finally get to Hollywood after an hour and a half, eat some lunch and make our way through some even more ridiculous Hollywood traffic and get to Nate's friends place and regroup before heading to Malibu. Keeping in mind that Nate and I intended on being in Malibu by no later than 2, so we could chill on the beach all day. Because of more traffic, we don't even end up in Malibu until 4pm....super lame. When we get there though, we go to this super gorgeous spot (there will be pictures shortly) and I see the best wave that I have seen since coming to Cali. This is awful....anyone want to guess why this is awful? I'll tell you. The one thing I left out of the story earlier, is that I got a freakin staph infection earlier in the week, so I can't get in the water till the Doc says its ok. Normally I wouldn't listen to that rule...the problem is that we are pretty sure the dirty-ass ocean out here is what gave me the staph. So yeah, this beautiful wave right here:

and I can't even surf.

On top of that, we decide that it is not very safe for Nate to try and learn to surf at this spot because of the rocks. I didn't want Nate to get hurt and I certainly didn't want him to ruin my board on the rocks. So we drove about 20 minutes south to Santa Monica and decided to let him surf there. At this point, I was already having a pretty terrible time because I couldn't surf this gorgeous wave, and I had essentially been in a car alllllll day on a day that was meant to be spent on the beach. Well Nate gets to try and surf and I'm having a good time watching him get ROCKED by these waves that are still coming in at around chest to head high. Everything is fine and Nate gets out and when we go to leave, I went to put the board in my car and notice that it is broken......Not broken in half, but apparently one of the times that Nate got slammed, so did the board and it ripped the fin box out of the board. So at this point of the day, Ive been stuck in traffic for most of the day, I wasn't able to surf a perfect wave, I have a staph infection, and the board that I spent two days painting is broken. Literally the worst day I've had since coming out. After that, we decided to not even go back to Hollywood, we just went straight home from there. The funny part is that it only took us about 30 minutes to get home, which means that if we had avoided Hollywood all together, Malibu would have only been about 45 minutes away.....and if you can tell anything from the pictures, its that I am going back there soooooooon.

So to go ahead and cut myself off since this has gotten pretty long, today we had a cookout for the lakers game. Nate and all of his roommates and a few of the other Boeing interns came over. Me and Nate and Kevin cooked up some stuff and we took the huge flatescreen HD tv outside to watch the game. I snapped a few crappy pictures from that, but there wasn't much to talk about for today. So anyway, here are the pics from the cookout:

So yeah, that was my weekend in a nutshell. If you made it this far into the update, congratulations, you deserve a medal. Sorry that was so long-winded, but I guess it was somewhat necessary. I'll talk to ya soon.

Quikie

Hey, so the crime log last week sucked, but I'm gonna go pick up one today and update if its any better. But for now, I gotta post these two videos cuz I love them. If you liked The Lonely Island's "I'm On A Boat," then maybe you'll appreciate the acapella version here:

If not, then maybe you like Lil' Wayne's song "Let the Beat Build." If you like that, this check out the spin this guy put on it:

I'll be back on later today probably.

The Day After Your Birthday Blues

Hey Everybody,
The good news is that I am alive, the bad news is that I feel like death haha. It was worth it though, my birthday was mad fun. Me, Kevin, and Nate went out for dinner at Sushi on Fire.....literally, check it out:

Photobucket

I love this place so much, it's so delicious. They also give me the local discount, which is very nice :-)

After that, we went back to the house, then Nate and I went back out to the bars for a bit.

I had a good day at work too, I walked in at 8 and this is what I saw:

Photobucket

haha, I love my boss, she is great.

Anyway, I'm just kind of taking it easy today. I will hopefully have an awesome opportunity to get some great pics on Friday. I won't say what it is yet because I don't want to jinx it, but keep your fingers crossed.

peace

My Awesome End of the Week

Whats up errrrbody,
Yeah, so not a lot had happened at all since I went down to Trestles; I just went to work and came home and surfed a little. Friday was different though -- So I went to my favorite place to get breakfast on Friday after surfing. This place is delicious, not too expensive, and only open from 7-2, so they obviously have figured the breakfast thing out. Anyway, this pro surfer that I'm a pretty big fan of, his family owns the place. I figured I wouldn't ever see him but I get in there on Friday and who is serving me breakfast? None other than Timmy Turner himself. Crazy Right? So that was cool.

Last night was the best though, me and Kevin found this bar in Long Beach that does Heavy Metal Karaoke every Saturday night. But here is the twist, its not regular karaoke, there's an actual metal band thats playing, you just go up and sing whatever song you want for them. It was hilarious and awesome all at the same time. The best part was that Kevin paid for dinner and the drinks as an early birthday gift to me too....What a good night. Anyway, I will talk to you all soon, and hopefully grab some more pics to throw up. We might have another cookout again tonight for the Lakers game, so that could be some pictures....We shall see.

Peace

Trestles Pics

Fun Day,
I stayed at Uppers most of the time, but I got some decent shots from Lowers. Here you go:

A Short Series of Letters

Dear Trestles,
Thank you so much for having Firewire and I over today for surfing. I had always heard you were fun, but I happened to catch you on an uncrowded, chest-head high, perfectly glassy day.....so fun was an understatement. Thanks to you, Firewire and I have never been closer. Couldn't have done it without you!

Thanks Trestles,
With Love,
Jon Barnes

Dear Jonathan,
I am glad to hear you had a great time surfing in me today, I heard you were coming, so I kicked all the d-bags out of the water and threw some swell in that I knew was your favorite size.....Oh, and the glassy water, that was me too, me and my buddy wind were handling things for ya. I'm glad to hear about you and Firewire, I saw you too lovebirds out there and you looked GREAT together. I saw that air you busted too, thank goodness to didn't hit your head on a rock when you ate crap trying to land it. Come again anytime; I can't promise the lack of crowds, but I got ya covered when it comes to great surf.

Until Next Time,
Trestles

Yeah, I'm going back down there soon....it was the best surf I've had since I've been here, and it wasn't even a good day but Trestles standards. Pictures up a little later, I gotta go eat first.

Microsoft Excel Can Suck It.

I spent all day making a spreadsheet that put together and balanced buy orders from a ton of different spreadsheets, for just over 8 million dollars worth of merchandise......needless to say, I'm kind of a big deal. Not really, they would have done it with or without me, but since I was there, they didn't have to do it because it's definitely a pain. Either way, the day went by pretty quickly....

FOR NOTHING!!!!!! I got up this morning at 6 to check the surf and it looked reasonably fun, but the forecast said it would be better around 6 at Seal Beach (which is where Nate lives). So I figured I'd go back to sleep and come get my boards during my lunch break, and head straight to Seal beach to surf after work. That's exactly what I did....except I should have known something was up when the forecast said it would be good at DEAD HIGH TIDE....lame, we got there and it was as flat as it probably is at home right now. I threw a fit....but it's cool, me and Nate grilled out again, then played volleyball with all the Boeing interns and chilled for a bit. I'm just getting back now, but I'm super tired and getting ready to hit the sack so I can attempt this whole surfing thing again in the a-m.

More Pictures Soon....I Promise----I'm either going to Six Flags this weekend, or a cookout in LA, so there will be plenty of photo opps either way.

A Message for T-Man

Way to go Young Blood.....Way to go.
