Hey Everybody!!!
So Nate and I went up to San Francisco for the weekend and it was AWESOME! Nate's friend Emily lives in Oakland so she gave us a place to stay. On top of that, she also decided to be the one to show us alllllllllll around the city on Saturday (parking was terrible though). Anyway, we went up to Berkeley, then down to Stanford, then down to Apple and Google. It was all awesome, but here's the pics from the trip!
I'll talk about it later!

Nike 6.0 Contest, Skullcandy Demo, and More

So Here is a series of posts with some pics to keep you guys happy :-)

so last week, the skate demo i went to was pretty cool. Rune Glifberg was there, along with Pierre Luc Gagnon, Lizard King, and Adam Dyet. Also, Del Tha Funk Homosapien was performing. It was a pretty fun little demo.

After that, I also stumbled upon a really really fun skatepark in Costa Mesa. It's Volcom's gift to the world I guess, either way, its super fun so there are some pics of it at the end of the slideshow as well.

Today I went down to the beach to check out some of the Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure contest. North Carolina's own Brett Barley was there, as well as Virginia Beach's Phillip Goold. They were both rockin it out for 17th St and the East coast. Here are a few pics of the contest as well.

alright, that should hold you over till i get some more awesome pics. I am heading up to Malibu this week, so don't worry, awesome pics are on the way.

OH AND I FORGOT

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO SENT A BIRTHDAY CARD!!!! I love it, and to prove it, let me show you what I did with them :-) NOTE THE FIRST PICTURE BELOW.

Also, just figured I would show you how to make the BEST GUACAMOLE EVER....in case you like guac, its super easy and super delicious. Its so simple, I won't even type out the recipe, just follow the pictures and picture captions to make it, it will work if you do everything to taste; after all, you are the one that knows which ingredient you do and do not like, so why would you put too much (or any) of an ingredient that you do not like.

anyway, here it is, enjoy!

NEWS

Alright,
So I said I would post again yesterday and I didn't - sue me. The event that I was hoping to grab some shots for on Friday ended up being a bomb. Donavon Frankenreiter was playing 6 secret shows in Southern CA. He listed the date and city of each show. All you had to do was be one of the first 10 people to send an email at 10am Pac Std Time, requesting a ticket for the show in that area, on that day. I didn't get it, but my plan was to go to the show in Huntington Beach (Because that was one of the locations) and get some awesome pics of the show because they were all really small.

Anyway, so that ended up being a no-go. I was really excited though because Nate and I had plans to head down to Hollywood on Saturday, then go from Hollywood to Malibu, then come back from Malibu and stop back in Hollywood to go out for the night with his friends. Well, Saturday ended up being the most miserable day that I've had since I came to Cali. Here's why:

So, we leave at 11 am to get to Hollywood in time to eat lunch with his friends...the traffic is unbelievable (i hate LA because of this....soo much). We finally get to Hollywood after an hour and a half, eat some lunch and make our way through some even more ridiculous Hollywood traffic and get to Nate's friends place and regroup before heading to Malibu. Keeping in mind that Nate and I intended on being in Malibu by no later than 2, so we could chill on the beach all day. Because of more traffic, we don't even end up in Malibu until 4pm....super lame. When we get there though, we go to this super gorgeous spot (there will be pictures shortly) and I see the best wave that I have seen since coming to Cali. This is awful....anyone want to guess why this is awful? I'll tell you. The one thing I left out of the story earlier, is that I got a freakin staph infection earlier in the week, so I can't get in the water till the Doc says its ok. Normally I wouldn't listen to that rule...the problem is that we are pretty sure the dirty-ass ocean out here is what gave me the staph. So yeah, this beautiful wave right here:

and I can't even surf.

On top of that, we decide that it is not very safe for Nate to try and learn to surf at this spot because of the rocks. I didn't want Nate to get hurt and I certainly didn't want him to ruin my board on the rocks. So we drove about 20 minutes south to Santa Monica and decided to let him surf there. At this point, I was already having a pretty terrible time because I couldn't surf this gorgeous wave, and I had essentially been in a car alllllll day on a day that was meant to be spent on the beach. Well Nate gets to try and surf and I'm having a good time watching him get ROCKED by these waves that are still coming in at around chest to head high. Everything is fine and Nate gets out and when we go to leave, I went to put the board in my car and notice that it is broken......Not broken in half, but apparently one of the times that Nate got slammed, so did the board and it ripped the fin box out of the board. So at this point of the day, Ive been stuck in traffic for most of the day, I wasn't able to surf a perfect wave, I have a staph infection, and the board that I spent two days painting is broken. Literally the worst day I've had since coming out. After that, we decided to not even go back to Hollywood, we just went straight home from there. The funny part is that it only took us about 30 minutes to get home, which means that if we had avoided Hollywood all together, Malibu would have only been about 45 minutes away.....and if you can tell anything from the pictures, its that I am going back there soooooooon.

So to go ahead and cut myself off since this has gotten pretty long, today we had a cookout for the lakers game. Nate and all of his roommates and a few of the other Boeing interns came over. Me and Nate and Kevin cooked up some stuff and we took the huge flatescreen HD tv outside to watch the game. I snapped a few crappy pictures from that, but there wasn't much to talk about for today. So anyway, here are the pics from the cookout:

So yeah, that was my weekend in a nutshell. If you made it this far into the update, congratulations, you deserve a medal. Sorry that was so long-winded, but I guess it was somewhat necessary. I'll talk to ya soon.

Hey, so the crime log last week sucked, but I'm gonna go pick up one today and update if its any better. But for now, I gotta post these two videos cuz I love them. If you liked The Lonely Island's "I'm On A Boat," then maybe you'll appreciate the acapella version here:

If not, then maybe you like Lil' Wayne's song "Let the Beat Build." If you like that, this check out the spin this guy put on it:

The Day After Your Birthday Blues

Hey Everybody,
The good news is that I am alive, the bad news is that I feel like death haha. It was worth it though, my birthday was mad fun. Me, Kevin, and Nate went out for dinner at Sushi on Fire.....literally, check it out:

Photobucket

I love this place so much, it's so delicious. They also give me the local discount, which is very nice :-)

After that, we went back to the house, then Nate and I went back out to the bars for a bit.

I had a good day at work too, I walked in at 8 and this is what I saw:

Photobucket

haha, I love my boss, she is great.

Anyway, I'm just kind of taking it easy today. I will hopefully have an awesome opportunity to get some great pics on Friday. I won't say what it is yet because I don't want to jinx it, but keep your fingers crossed.

My Awesome End of the Week

Whats up errrrbody,
Yeah, so not a lot had happened at all since I went down to Trestles; I just went to work and came home and surfed a little. Friday was different though -- So I went to my favorite place to get breakfast on Friday after surfing. This place is delicious, not too expensive, and only open from 7-2, so they obviously have figured the breakfast thing out. Anyway, this pro surfer that I'm a pretty big fan of, his family owns the place. I figured I wouldn't ever see him but I get in there on Friday and who is serving me breakfast? None other than Timmy Turner himself. Crazy Right? So that was cool.

Last night was the best though, me and Kevin found this bar in Long Beach that does Heavy Metal Karaoke every Saturday night. But here is the twist, its not regular karaoke, there's an actual metal band thats playing, you just go up and sing whatever song you want for them. It was hilarious and awesome all at the same time. The best part was that Kevin paid for dinner and the drinks as an early birthday gift to me too....What a good night. Anyway, I will talk to you all soon, and hopefully grab some more pics to throw up. We might have another cookout again tonight for the Lakers game, so that could be some pictures....We shall see.

Peace

Trestles Pics

Fun Day,
I stayed at Uppers most of the time, but I got some decent shots from Lowers. Here you go:

A Short Series of Letters

Dear Trestles,
Thank you so much for having Firewire and I over today for surfing. I had always heard you were fun, but I happened to catch you on an uncrowded, chest-head high, perfectly glassy day.....so fun was an understatement. Thanks to you, Firewire and I have never been closer. Couldn't have done it without you!

Thanks Trestles,
With Love,
Jon Barnes

Dear Jonathan,
I am glad to hear you had a great time surfing in me today, I heard you were coming, so I kicked all the d-bags out of the water and threw some swell in that I knew was your favorite size.....Oh, and the glassy water, that was me too, me and my buddy wind were handling things for ya. I'm glad to hear about you and Firewire, I saw you too lovebirds out there and you looked GREAT together. I saw that air you busted too, thank goodness to didn't hit your head on a rock when you ate crap trying to land it. Come again anytime; I can't promise the lack of crowds, but I got ya covered when it comes to great surf.

Until Next Time,
Trestles

Yeah, I'm going back down there soon....it was the best surf I've had since I've been here, and it wasn't even a good day but Trestles standards. Pictures up a little later, I gotta go eat first.

Microsoft Excel Can Suck It.

I spent all day making a spreadsheet that put together and balanced buy orders from a ton of different spreadsheets, for just over 8 million dollars worth of merchandise......needless to say, I'm kind of a big deal. Not really, they would have done it with or without me, but since I was there, they didn't have to do it because it's definitely a pain. Either way, the day went by pretty quickly....

FOR NOTHING!!!!!! I got up this morning at 6 to check the surf and it looked reasonably fun, but the forecast said it would be better around 6 at Seal Beach (which is where Nate lives). So I figured I'd go back to sleep and come get my boards during my lunch break, and head straight to Seal beach to surf after work. That's exactly what I did....except I should have known something was up when the forecast said it would be good at DEAD HIGH TIDE....lame, we got there and it was as flat as it probably is at home right now. I threw a fit....but it's cool, me and Nate grilled out again, then played volleyball with all the Boeing interns and chilled for a bit. I'm just getting back now, but I'm super tired and getting ready to hit the sack so I can attempt this whole surfing thing again in the a-m.

More Pictures Soon....I Promise----I'm either going to Six Flags this weekend, or a cookout in LA, so there will be plenty of photo opps either way.

I Just Got a Pretty Good Idea

Alright,
So one of the funniest things that I've seen since I've been here is the Crime Log in the OC Weekly. It comes out every Thursday, and each time I have been amazed at how hilarious some of the crime in this neighborhood is.

So here's what I am going to do for you from now on - I will share with you my favorites from each week...I am going to start saving them every week to bring home though....because they are great!

So Here are my favorites from the past two weeks:
CRIME IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Sunday, April 26
Not A Fan: 21100 Block Strathmoor. Caller said about 20 people playing soccer without a permit. He was worried that if they continued playing, "it will explode into an invasion."

Friday, April 24
Spit and Run:5300 block Sisson. A woman said she honked at a driver to avoid a collision. Both drivers arrived to watch a concert at a school and a passenger of the car yelled and cussed at her. When she returned to her car, saliva was on the door handle.

Sunday, May 24
Assault:18700 block North Florida. An elderly woman shoved and jumped on another elderly woman at an independent living home.
Friday, May 22
Vicious:17700 block Goldenwest. A coyote was chasing someone near the Park Bench Cafe.
Party Foul:8100 block Pawtucket. A resident said a neighbor was playing 80s music and it was too loud. He said, "you can hear 'Hot Blooded' only so many times."

And there we have it, my first installment of weekly hilarious crime log updates!

~jon

I'm Still Alive

Don't worry, nothing happened to me, there just hasn't been anything new and interesting to post about. Believe it or not, it has been cloudy here for the last two days and the water has literally been flat :-/ It's cool though, I went to work on Thursday and it's always nice getting back in to doing something. The internship is pretty fun so far and it hasn't gotten crazy busy or anything yet.

Last night I actually went out with my friend Nate from home and his roommates. We all ended up hanging out at his apartment complex because over half of the interns for the company that he is working for are actually staying there. They have a pretty nice setup; hot tub, pool, volleyball courts, grilling area, gym, it's nice. So we all pretty much just hung out last night, I'm not sure what's going down tonight, other than the Cavs game.

I'll get back to you when there is something better worth posting about!

Tuesday Market and Surf

Hey Everybody,

Well, I slept through my alarm this morning....good thing it was just set for surfing, which I got to do anyway. The waves were pretty fun this morning; I got out just before the wind started to get on it and there was a little leftover south swell coming in around waist/chest high. I keep having to get out for being cold, but I really just don't want to deal with booties anymore, I thought I left that behind with spring in NC.

Also, in case I didn't mention it earlier, every Tuesday Main St in HB turns into an awesome market/festival. It is great, it is fun, what's not to love. There is everything from fresh produce, to arts and crafts, to food stands, and most importantly lots of music. There are at least two musicians on every block (3 blocks of main st are shut down) and everyone is having a good time. I decided to go out this afternoon and grab some shots of it for you all to see. While I was there, I noticed that the swell hadn't completely died yet, so I actually got a few decent surf shots for you too. Alright, I've kept you waiting long enough, so here they are - Market Tuesday and Sunset Surf:

Until Next Time,
~Jon

AVP, almost surf, and COOKOUT!

Well, today was pretty fun. I woke up and the surf was glassy and anywhere from shoulder to 2 ft OH high....but it was more crowded than normal in the morning, unlike home. I still had a good time but I got out not because I was tired, but because I was cold. The sun finally came out and me and Kevin and Martin went down to watch the finals of the AVP tournament. That was alright but the surf had crapped out so much by that point that I couldn't even get any good pics.....and I'm obviously going to surf when the surf is good, so I'm not sure how that will end up working haha.

We also had a cookout tonight. Me and Kevin, his friends Martin and Lynn, and my friend Nate and his brother and two roommates that are just down the street all came. The food was awesome, we did drinks, with bacon/jalapeno/cheddar/shrimp as starters but then we did an awesome drunk chicken with mixxed veggies and bread for the entre. Everyone chipped in a little I guess, but it was an awesome meal ether way.

I promised some pictures, so without even going through them, here are the pics from the day and the cookout! :

also, here's a few more that wouldn't fit:

No Photos This Time

Alright,

First day at Roxy was Thursday, and it was cool. They gave me a bag of stuff and then showed me around for an hour or so, I got my employee badge....awesome, then my boss Tiffany and my other superior Nicole took me down to one of the shops in Newport Beach so we could see how they had some stuff setup. Tiffany actually asked if I had been to this famous cupcake shop called Sprinkes (I actually went to the one in Bev Hills on recommendation of a friend) and then she bought Sprinkles for everybody....work is hard right? I got back to the office just in time to go to lunch haha, then came back and basically worked at my computer, in my cubicle for about 3.5 hours and then peaced out. Their current intern is still there so I am not actually going back until Thursday.

I also finally got in touch with the people at Old Navy for work (its nice because it's 2 miles down the street) and they said they could give me a call back as soon as they got in touch with my manager from back home. So some extra income will be nice, and definitely used :-)

There really haven't been any nice waves since Ive been out here, don't get me wrong I have surfed everyday, but the waves haven't been all that great yet. The swell is supposed to come in this weekend though and it definitely started showing up last night, so I should get some good surf for the weekend and hopefully that means some good pics too!

Also on a quick note, my friend Nate that I graduated with from S&M is actually living and working out here for the summer. He is only about 10 minutes down the road, so we've been hanging out. Me and Kevin are having a little cookout this weekend on Sunday, so I should also be able to get a few pictures together from that.

Anyway, all is well on my end of the nation, hope the same goes for all of you. If you actually read this far down the post, then thanks and I'll keep em' coming.

Casa de Kevin y Jonathan

Hey everybody,
Well, I took Tyler back to the airport this morning and he is on the way home as we speak. Unfortunately, he flew out of LAX instead of SNA....so I've had better mornings. The traffic is ridiculous, like nothing you have ever experienced if you are stuck in NC. Aside from that, I made it back to HB fine, after detouring to see Beverly Hills (None of the Cops looked like Eddie Murphy though). I start work on Thursday morning, so we will see how that goes - I am definitely excited about it.

And now, some more of what I promised -- pictures!
Here are a few shots of the place I am staying:

I will be posting some more of shots from around town soon, and maybe some of my shenanigans at the house.

Take Care,
Jon

EDIT:
Oh and if you are wondering, commenting at the bottom of these posts is a great way to keep up with me, so is facebook. I'm not making too many calls during the week because my phone free-nights-after-9 is midnight for most of you, and I am trying to not send text messages unless I absolutely HAVE to. Also if you have a Blackberry, you can reach me through BBM, just ask and I will give you my PIN.

So there it is, sign up to be a follower of the blog, that way I can see who cares, and leave some comments!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Its Go Time

And it begins! I am just now getting ready to leave the beach after an amazing weekend of shenanigans with everybody at my going away party. I had way too much fun and decided that I HAVE to post some of the pics from the weekend. Let me know if you want me to take any of these pics down. At this point, I am setting out to leave on Wednesday morning at the crack of dawn. My goal is to be in Huntington Beach by Friday night or Saturday Morning. Not exactly sure of the places I will be hitting each day, but my rough plan is:
Day 1 - Conway, NC to Little Rock, AR
Day 2 - Little Rock, AR to Albuquerque, NM
Day 3 - Albuquerque, NM to Huntington Beach, CA!!!!

If I do not update while I am on the road (though i expect to do this), then I will post the pics when I get settled in.

And what You've All been waiting for - The Party Pics!

Good News

Alright, so my finals are half-way over. I'm slowly but surely getting ready for the drive to Cali. regular updates on this thing should start in about 1.5 weeks. Im having a little get-together this coming weekend before I leave. The shinannigans of that weekend will be closely(blurrily) documented(hopefully) and I will post a nice album of all that goes on. Then I set out on May 13th, and I will take a ton of pics and basically publish my journey on here, and the good times begin. Stay tuned, it's gonna get A-W-E-S-O-M-E.....cuz its about me.
